We have a very exciting and fun filled month! Born of the Gods game day is the first weekend of this month and the tournament starts at 6pm. Normal prize support is supplied, 1.5 packs per person, as well as a spiffy Born of the Gods play mat for 1st place. Starting this weekend you will be able to challenge the horde deck with a standard construction deck. Those able to defeat the horde will receive a ticket entering them into a drawing to win a box of Journey into Nix. Feel free to play as many times as you like but only 1 ticket can be won per deck, per week. After the Game Day, Saturday March 1, 2014, we will be limiting these challenges to Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

Our training camps have been a huge success! Last month we kicked off our “Kids First” initiative. Gaming as been a driving force in shaping all our childhoods at The Hidden Lair. Everyone one of us has a story to tell from our childhood that involves this amazing environment and these great games. Our goal is to provide a safe area for everyone of all ages to embrace learning and have fun. For some time now, we have known the way to learning is through doing something you enjoy. So we started a campaign were we are supplying schools, libraries, and other organizations with the tools they need to embrace the power of gaming. We have scheduled events now in Decatur, Forsyth, Mt Zion, and Argenta / Oreana. The idea has been well received and libraries all around the Greater Decatur area are calling to be a part of this great program. Later this month we will release a full press release with details about each location and event. These events are free, most provide snacks, and we provide staff on site to help with all questions. Don’t have the game being played that night? No worries, if the game requires you to have something, we provide it for free!

If you are interested in having a training camp at your location feel free to call Carmen Bradshaw, our event coordinator, at 217 864 1851.

We have created a new Jr. tournament bracket designed for tournament play for beginners. This is a perfect place for younger players to get a feel for tournament play without being tossed in the ring with more experienced players. When he/she is ready to advance to the next level, each player can start attending games like Friday Night Magic, or Yu-Gi-Oh Sundays. Kaijudo is scheduled for 11am followed by Jr. Planeswalker Magic at 2pm. Dragon Duels for Yu-Gi-Oh will start on Sunday at 12pm.

Want to have your Birthday party at The Hidden Lair? Well now you can! We will be announcing details later this month, check back for more information!

We have changed our Heroclix format. Based on suggestions from you, our customers, we have changed our events to be sealed gravity feed packs instead of a booster draft. This brings down the price of entry from $15 to $5. You get to pick a gravity feed from our large selection, some restrictions do apply based on compatibility, and one Heroclix from our previously owned box. You then assemble a two figure team and we perform a Swiss bracketed tournament. Prize support equals $1 per entry. Not only do you get to open a gravity feed, and keep your two figures, but top pays out as well!

This month we will start using Saturday night to introduce new games into the store for tournament play. Games such as Netrunner, Warmachine, Quarriors, and Dice Masters will be some of those we will begin to schedule. Please check our website, Facebook, or call our store for details.

The pre-release weekend for Journey into Nyx is scheduled for April 26-27, 2014. The set street date is May 2, 2014. Kaijudo: The 5 Mystics Saturday March 15th, 2014

Save the World From Destruction!
Unable to stop the rampaging of the Choten’s twisted army, the Duel Masters’ only hope now lies with The 5 Mystics of the creature realm and their all powerful Absolute Spells. In this set, players can secure all five Civilization Mystics and their Absolute Spells in order to win the battle and save the day!

This event will be very similar to a booster draft in Magic The Gathering. The cost for this event will be $20 which will cover lunch and 4 boosters of the new set. Once players are seated, our staff will hand out 3 boosters to each player. 45 minutes will be given to each player to assemble a deck. Instead of using the normal deck construction rules, players’ decks must be built with at least 30 cards and my include more than 3 of any single card. Once the decks are constructed, tournament play will commence as normal with one difference. Players are allowed to add/remove any cards from the deck with any cards opened up within the 3 packs between rounds of play. The tournament will be three rounds and prizes will be awarded to everyone based on number of wins.

Three wins – 3 promo cards
Two wins – 2 promo cards
One or 0 wins – 1 promo cards

After the tournament, time will be allotted for trading. There will be a great deal of new cards between packs and promos and trading is not allowed during the tournament. This will allow players an attempt to complete a play set, (3 of the same card), of the cards they like.

We have three promo cards that will be handed out during this day. First, we have the March Duel Days promo card, which is an amazing blue card that allows you to draw. The second card, a yellow spell card specific to 5 Mystics named Reckoning. This spell has a casting cost of 7, but allows your creatures to win every battle until the start of your next turn. I think this card would be used in the event you find yourself locked with your opponent. The third card, also specific to 5 Mystics, is a duel blue/green blocking creature card. Most notably is the special ability Spirit Guide, which allows you to look at the top 3 cards of your library and if one of those is a creature card, put it in your hand.
